Madison with Santa 2008

Thanksgiving was a crazy whirlwind for us.  We made the trip to my family's house in Georgia.  There were 20 adults and 5 kids (ages - 5,4,3,2, and 1)!  The chaos of trying to keep up with Madison in that mix was hysterical.  I tried to get a few photos, but she was running in the opposite direction the entire time.  I have a very few photos I'll share later.

We are working on decorating for Christmas.  I pulled out this photo last night and wanted to share!  IF I can get Madison into Santa's lap this year I have a feeling that it will look very similar to last year...

Sleeping Beauty

I usually check on Madison after she goes down for a nap or to bed for the night.  I always want to take her picture because she is so peaceful and perfect, but I don't want to disturb her.  I let her go down for her nap yesterday with a book.  This is what I found when I went in to check on her.

Jason was out giving the yard one final mow so I wanted to snap a shot for him to see.  It cracks me up to think how she got herself all comfy to read her book!

So peaceful right?  I didn't touch her.. just took the book out of her crib.  She must have been really comfortable because she slept from 12:30 until 4:00!!

Avannabel Baby Coupon Code

In celebration of Madison going retail I have a coupon code for Avannabel Baby.  They really have the cutest clothes!

Here is a dress Madison wore at six months old.  This was our Christmas card photo last year.  (Taken by Julie at Uppercase Photography of course!)  Avannabel Baby sells this dress in many different colors.

I love this $29 outfit!  They only carry it in size 6 months so if this next baby happens to be a girl I'll be ordering it for sure.

and probably these...

But... if it's a boy we'll need something like this.

Simply use "Madison" in the coupon box for 15% off!

19 Months Old

(A little blurry, but the best I could do this morning before school!)

I had not planned to document Madison turning 19 months old.  I had decided to do 18 months and then 2 years.  However, she has had such a month of growth!!

This month has been all about "Da DEE."  She is a daddy's girl.  I'm sure this is a phase and she will prefer me once again (hee hee), but Jason is loving it.  I must admit it's really sweet and makes my heart swell.

She adds a new word to her vocabulary daily.  I'm always surprised when she says something new.  For example, she pointed to a picture of a potty last night in one of her books and said.. well... "Pot-TEE."  It's so exciting as her mom to watch this language explosion even if it is the word potty!  My favorite word or sound she uses these days is.. "ummmmm."  I'll ask her if she wants this or that and with a deep concentrating look on her face she say "ummmm" and then let me know what she wants.  SO CUTE!

Madison and I have two big frustrations daily.  One is that she HATES to have her diaper changed.  She doesn't mind a dirty diaper.  You can tell her "phew Madison... you stink" until the cows come home and she doesn't care.  You want to see my child run?  Tell her you're going to change her diaper.  Once you do catch up with her she'll put out her hand and say "MINE."  This translates to "don't touch me!"

The second challenge is the car seat.  I can get her in, but boy I have a hard time getting her out!  When I pull in to the garage she will only let me get her out if I leave the garage door open.  This means she can go outside.. which she loves.  If we get home right before nap time I don't want to trick her to get her out of her seat so I shut the garage and tell her it's nap time.  I lean back to get her and she swats my hand and says... "MINE."  I always dread when it's time to get her out of her seat!

She's become independent.  She does NOT like me to feed her.  She wants to do it herself and with a utensil!  So frustrating and messy, but I know it's important.  She loves to fake blow her nose or wipe her face just so she can have a piece of toilet paper to throw in the toilet and flush!

Madison LOVES the duck Pop made for her.  I leave it downstairs because of the hardwood floors and it's the first toy she goes for daily.

Well we are proud to brag on Madison's Pop.  He is doing a wonderful thing with the Greenville Woodworkers Guild.  He is not speaking in this piece, however, there are a few shots of him fast at work!

ONE FINAL THING!!!  Yes.. Madison is a Daddy's girl.  She has missed her daddy terribly over the past two weeks and so have I.  Jason has been working hard in Asia.  He has traveled many miles over many long hours to three different cities there.  He is due home and we are ecstatic.

Here he is in Shanghai a few days ago.  I laugh when I see this picture because he said he was stopped three different times to have his picture made with locals.  He wasn't really sure why....

Tomato Soup + Toddler = Mess!

I made Madison a grilled cheese for lunch and I made myself a bowl of tomato soup.  She wanted a bite of my soup and oh my gosh she loved it.  She also insisted on taking over my whole bowl so I made her a bowl of her own.

These were taken with my handy cell phone...

What is a mess without a game of peek-a-boo?

I ended up having to strip her down and change her clothes after lunch.

P.S.  Lori.. you left your sippy cup.  Madison likes it a lot. :)

Farm Photos... Part Two!

All of these photos were taken by Lina Jarmond.  I think she did an awesome job as well.

LOVE THIS!

and this...oh the many expressions of my child!

If you are wondering.. Madison loved this high chair and certainly did not mind hamming it up while sitting there.  I went to take her out at one point and she pushed my hands away in protest!

Sunday Boredom.. cured

Today it's just Madison and me.  We needed some entertainment in a big way.  I had to take something back to Target so that had to do.

You just never know what you might find on the dollar aisle ...

I loved these maternity sweaters and price ($19.99) so much... I bought both!

It's so weird that I have to worry about maternity clothes at just 14 weeks.  I didn't have to wear them until I was around 4 1/2 months with Madison.  I had been warned, but I really didn't believe it would be THIS fast!    I'm in maternity pants all the time now.  I can still wear normal tops as long as they are long enough to cover the band.  I'm not complaining.. just surprised!

Farm Photo Shoot

I mentioned a while back that Madison was a little model for several photographers out in east NC on a beautiful farm.  The pictures from that shoot are beginning to slowly trickle in.

Another photographer's photos...  I feel so lucky to have gotten this opportunity.  I love seeing how the different photographers captured Madison that day.

These were taken by Julie at Uppercase Photography.  (I linked to these a while back.)  She's been taking Madison's picture since she was three months old.

I really love this photo in black and white, but I love seeing the comparison in color.

Of course I think all of these shots are beautiful.. I'm a little bias!

Test Results

According to Intelligender, my gut, and most importantly Madison, I am carrying a baby boy.  However, according to the Chinese Lunar Calendar, I am having a baby girl.  (Thanks Melissa!)  At my last appointment my baby's heart rate was above 150 BPM which according to the myth that also indicates a girl.  (I asked my ultrasound tech her opinion on this and she said she firmly believes that is not an indicator of gender, but fun all the same!)

Intelligender

I'm a planner.... I like to be prepared. The thought never crossed my mind to wait until my baby was born to find out the sex.  I knew with Madison at my 20 week ultrasound that she was a girl!  Right after I delivered Madison the room was really quiet except for her sweet cries... I looked over at Jason and the nurse while they were weighing her and I said.. "It is a girl... right???" My doctor assured me that Madison was indeed a girl!  Not that I would have been disappointed with a boy it's just by this point everything we owned was a shade of pink!

Shortly after I found out I was pregnant with baby number two I was reading Parents magazine.  They had a little blurb about two (unheard of for me) ways to find out if you are having a boy or a girl.  One was a $150 test you send off to a lab.  (I can't remember the details because I knew I wasn't going to do it.)  The second was this little at home test you can do for around $30.  The craziest part is that you can buy the test at a drugstore or Target.  The test can be performed as early as 10 weeks and the accuracy rate is 80 - 90 %.

After reading a ton of reviews on-line I found that rate seems to be inflated.  A lot of reviews said that the test was wrong for them.  I bought the test anyway!  Jason and I are praying for a healthy baby.  We would be equally thrilled with a boy or a girl.  I am relying solely on the ultrasound we have scheduled for 18 weeks to start my planning.  This is JUST FOR FUN!  I promised I would share the results with my friends so that is why I'm posting!

I plan to try it soon... !  (If you have done this test.. let me know if it worked for you!)

P.S.  In case you are curious.. or care.. I think it's a boy.  I can't really say why other than Madison tells me so.  If you ask her if she wants a sister or a brother she always says "brudder."  Even if I change the order up on her.. "Madison do you want a brother or a sister.."  She responds "brudder" very firmly.   If you say "Madison, do you think the baby is a boy or a girl?"  She will say "boy" to the best of her ability every time.  It's quite comical especially since she is 18 months and I don't think she has any idea what I'm talking about!

Show Us Your Life - Thanksgiving Recipe

I've said it before; my dad is the best cook!!  His corn casserole is a staple for the holidays.  I make if we are with Jason's family for a certain holiday.  This year I'm with my dad for Thanksgiving so hopefully I can come back and put a picture up of the yummy casserole!

The casserole is appropriately named ...

"Ed's Corn Casserole"

Ingredients:

2 cans creamed corn
2 cans whole corn, drained, retain ¼ cup liquid
1 cup bell pepper, chopped, sautéed
1 cup onion, chopped, sautéed
6 oz jar chopped pimentos
2 eggs, beaten
½ cup sour cream
¾ stick butter, melted
½ cup self-rising corn meal
8 oz cheddar cheese, grated

Seasonings:

1 tsp onion powder
1 ½ tbs season salt or Tony Chauser’s seasoning
½ tbs black pepper
½ tbs paprika
1/8 tsp cayenne pepper
1 tsp basil
½ tsp thyme
Parsley flakes
Parmesan Cheese, grated
Seasoned bread crumbs (for topping)

Mix all ten ingredients in large bowl. Pour into 9x13 greased glass backing dish, top with parsley, bread crumbs and Parmesan cheese. Cook for 60 minutes @ 375 degrees or until golden on top.
