My oldest and my youngest...

We had a moment today.  The three of us.  Tyler left with Jason to run to the store and I put Callan down for a nap.  Not for long though...

I'm really surprised it's taken her this long to climb into bed with Callan.  It's like he's saying.. "I told her not to mom.. I told her I needed my sleep!!"

..."But she's kinda fun..."

..."and this sure beats a nap"

She just loves him so... I couldn't be mad.

I'm so glad I ran and grabbed my camera...

and caught these special moments.

Frustrated...

My sweet sweet boy.  He is so loving and happy.  Whenever there is a problem with his behavior it's usually a misunderstanding.  These "misunderstandings" have increased since he turned two.  Tyler has a vocabulary, however, most of the time he grunts instead of using his words.  He strings some words together... more milk, all done, apple juice, up please, etc. but for the most part his initial instinct is to grunt.  I can usually decipher his grunting, but his sister and friends can't and this can cause an all out war.  I took him before he turned two for a speech evaluation and they deemed him "average" and sent us on our way.  I kept thinking he would improve and his words would one day flow.  Instead, Tyler is frustrated.

We had another speech evaluation done this past week.  He is still above average in receptive language (she said he had skills of a three year old.. yay Tyler), but his verbal needs help.  Tyler will have speech therapy twice a week for an undetermined amount of time.  The speech therapist felt that he wouldn't need it long though.  I think a huge part of the sessions is to teach me how to draw his language out.  I now spend my days talking up every single thing we do.

Tyler: grunts "uhhhh uhhhh" ... while pointing at the baby swing
Me: "Tyler, you want to swing baby?"
Tyler: "uh HUH" .. his affirmation
Me: In all the sing song voice I can muster...  "Ok Tyler, say swing baby!"
Tyler: "shing baBY!"
Me: "Good JOB, TYLER!!!  GOOD JOB using your words!" and then I let him swing the baby.

It's exhausting and by then end of the day when Jason comes home and I'm still doing it, I feel silly.  I really don't care though.  It's what he needs and we will have him talking soon I hope!

Callan - 4 Months

Four months old.. really?  REALLY?!!  This month I feel like I have found my new normal.  I've been waiting on it and finally I feel at ease.  Let's be clear.. when I say "at ease" I don't mean easy.  Jason and I have our routine down and Callan has slipped right into place.  Memories of life without Callan are becoming distant.  The kids for sure have no memory!

Callan is not a huge fan of tummy time... I got this one picture and then he cried and tried to roll over.

I took these on the actual 4 month day....  Callan is such a sweet smiley baby!

Me alone???....

NO... NEVER...

EVER!!

Callan and Tyler.. Same age and same outfit.  They now have their very own look!

Pictures from the 4th!

My sweet talented friend Heather captured these photos on the 4th at her house.  Most of us are transplants and all our family live out of town or out of state.  We are so fortunate to have so close wonderful friends to spend holidays with!  We had a fantastic fourth!

Callan and his sweet new baby friend Cate!  All the kids loved on the babies!

Insta Tuesday

I love birthday party weekends!  The kids get to play with their friends and lets face it... it's free FUN entertainment!  This was after the party.. on the ride home.. post cake.. eating cookie party favors.  I just let the kids eat whatever when a birthday party is involved!

I made a huge mistake.  I attempted to take Callan of his reflux medicine.  He went from being THE perfect baby (happy, sleeping through the night, content where ever) to a totally different child.  I honestly thought he had caught a cold and after a week and a half I took him to the doctor.  All his symptoms (including.. waking up three times a night, cough, runny nose, extremely cranky, not napping) were from reflux.  It took a week to get the meds back in his system and I got my baby back!  This was him sleeping in his car seat for three hours after doctor visit.  The only place he could find comfort.  Our doctor said babies usually don't outgrow reflux until 6 or 7 months.

Look whose trying to give up their nap!  Madison took a nap until three and a half.  Tyler and I have had a long discussion about his (okay my) need for him to nap.

Callan LOVES his bath!

The 4th!

We watched a parade downtown!

Madison's face when she saw horses!

Tyler had the best seat!

Cookout at a friends house...

We have movie night every Friday night...

My sister and her family came for a weekend visit!

All of our kids swimming.. (well her two and two of mine!)  I take these with a Lifeproof IPhone case!
LOVE THAT SMILE!!

Uncle Kris and Austin!

Dinner out!!! (NO KIDS!)

Madison is really really needing more structured things to do.  She loves to do art and "projects" with me and Jason.  I'm constantly looking for things for her to do.  It's tough while caring for Tyler and Callan too.  We pulled out the rainbow rice yesterday!

.. and baked a cake!
